Last week I posted the preview article for this candid “Before & After” Mid-Life Transformation Interview …

What Bel, from http://www.BelsBodyBlog.com – shares in this interview below goes far deeper than the superficial elements of a fitness lifestyle. What she reveals is not only extremely powerful – but it’s what most people never actually hear about, let alone realize it’s something they need to tap into for their own success.

Aging In Reverse: Bel at 46 - almost 47!!

The most powerful transformations are actually a smaller part of one’s “Evolution”. When your personal growth is guided by your core values and life-long dreams – you set the stage for amazing things to happen… Press the green, oval ‘play’ button with the white triangle on it to get started:

Hi Joey,

I don’t usually write these emails, and I’m not sure if you’ll read this, but here I go anyways!

My name is Alex and I’m 18 years old. Anyways, I played competitive volleyball almost all through high school, so I was extremely in shape! (I’m talking training 3 times a week for beach volleyball and another 2 times for indoor) About 18 months ago, at the beginning of my senior year, I knocked back a position on the state volleyball team to concentrate on school…

After knocking back the position, the amount of volleyball I was playing started to drop off, I was doing less and less exercise and after about 6 months, it started to show.

Not to anyone else, as I was still a lot skinnier than a lot of my friends and I always got told to shut up when I complained. But for me, it just wasn’t good enough that I was starting to get flabby as opposed to my tightly toned body I’ve been used to.

But, I’m naturally extremely lazy and though I’d complain, I’d never actually do anything about it. So before I knew it, I went from a size 8 to a size 10 (Australian sizes) and trying to convince myself it wasn’t ‘that bad’…

Which brings me to this year, where I’m in the most unfit shape I’ve ever been in my life…

Yes, I know I’m only 18 and have no life experience etc as my Dad would say. But being just ‘okay’ at anything has never sat right with me, especially when I KNOW I can do better.

So at the beginning of the year before I started working full time, I went and got myself a gym membership. I went 5 times a week for 3 months, I was feeling great, I had a lot more energy, but the changes I were seeing just wasn’t what I wanted, then I got sick and never really got back into it, only going once a week now if I’m lucky.

I also don’t watch what I eat one tiny bit, even though I really should. In the last year, I’ve seen my step mum gain 20 kgs because her age and not looking after herself was catching up to her…

Which brings me to my main motivation for finally getting my act together and deciding to do something, even though my body is OKAY now, what’s going to happen in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?

I DO NOT want to get fat…

So bored at work, I was having a bit of a google and I came across your site. I was extremely skeptical at first, but I really enjoyed reading your stuff because it was clear that you cared and weren’t spewing bullshit!

So I bit the bullet and bought the DVD’s, hoping to prove everyone wrong who said I’d been pulled into some marketing scam…

All I can say is WOW.

I’m finding muscles I never even knew I had!

I’ve done countless amounts of different exercises over my time playing competitive volleyball, and nothing has ever burned like your exercises. (Besides maybe wall sits!) It was GREAT!

The day after I did the workout for the first time, I had a lactic acid build up that I hadn’t had in so long, and it felt good! Same with the day after the 2nd workout. I LOVE getting that lactic acid build up feeling, makes me feel like I’ve done something.

But then I did a silly thing and fell asleep at the beach with no sunscreen on…. 4 days later brings us to yesterday where it had finally gone down enough that I could move. So I did your workout for the 3rd time and once again, wow!

I also feel like I’m building my core strength back up, which is AMAZING! Something I never thought I’d get back without going back into hard out volleyball training again!

I read every newsletter you send, and I love the success stories so much!! So life story put aside, I’m writing to tell you that I feel so fortunate I’ve found you at such a young age, so I don’t let my body slip into complete fatness and spend forever fighting to get it back!

I can’t wait for my body to be back to where I know it can be! Indirectly, you’ve also motivated me to pick up volleyball again, I really miss an active lifestyle. So as soon as I finish writing this, I’m going to Facebook the girls and see who’s keen!!!

I hope more girls my age stumble across your site, because I truly believe that starting now is going to be so much better for my health and well being in the long run!

So thank you so much Joey!!

— Alex

PS- One of my favourite parts of your DVD is the fact that there is NO ANNOYING MUSIC! Can’t stand that gimmicky crap!

Firsthand accounts of common “ups & downs” make success more realistic to other, ‘everyday’ people. They PROVE it can be done – and this inspires others into action… it happens every day.

I hope you’ve found something of value in this story. If so please share it with others and feel free to leave your comments or thoughts below…

Your trainer forever – your trainer for life,

If you’ve been following me for any amount of time – then you know I’m a big – no, make that MASSIVE, advocate of bodyweight fitness training.

If you’ve only ‘found me’ recently – then I’ll make it clear here: The conventional approach to getting in shape via weights and machines “in the gym” is no match for a properly designed bodyweight training program. Doesn’t matter if we’re talking about pure beginners or ultra-advanced fitness enthusiasts…

Now – don’t get me wrong, there is a place for some weights. Dumbbells are an excellent tool, when used properly to supplement a well-designed bodyweight workout program.

As you read this – it should help for you to know you are hearing this from someone who has learned of this difference through deep experience – both of myself and countless clients I’ve worked with over the past 21 years.

I’ll be writing more about this in the near future – but for now I want to share a detailed success story email which boldly highlights the point I’m making in this post. Here it is…

——– Original Message ——–
To: “Your Trainer: Joey Atlas” -joey @ joeyatlas . com-

Dear Joey:

I have been meaning to write for a while but have been busy with life. I must give credit where credit is due. I bought your lower body dvd set a while ago, I think 2 or 3 months ago. Anyways I wrote you once to tell you that I could feel the results of your workouts and was seeing some results.

What I now want to tell you is that I am amazed at your work outs in the dvds and how it has changed the shape of my legs and thighs.

I am starting to get legs that I have always wanted.

I have worked out with weights for years and got some results but never like I have now. I was never happy with my thighs and worked hard on them with weight training, only to get discouraged at the hard work and quite frankly get sick of all the effort.

I stopped going to the gym for a few years and wanted to get back into shape, so I persevered back into the weights at the gym, started jogging and was hoping for the best. Around the same time, I found your dvds on line and ordered them, I wanted to believe you but was skeptical.

The first work out was incredible, I was so sore for just plain exercises with no weights, and I am thinking what is going on here? I kept on doing the exercises 3 days a week and jogged and **stopped using weights.** Incredible, in fact the other day I decided to jog and just do weights, thinking I had better take it easy because I hadn’t done them for a while and was waiting for the sore legs – but NOTHING, not impressed!

The next time I went to the gym I jogged and did your exercises from your dvds. My legs were weak when I finished the exercises and they were sore the next day. I KNOW they work and am so happy with the results.

No weights, just specific exercises and I am getting the results I’ve always wanted but never got when I was working out with weights.

Thank you Joey for the awesome dvds and everything else that you put into it!!

I am a true believer!!
God bless
Nina – Powell River, B.C. Canada.

That’s an awesome email – Don’t you agree??

Listen – I’m not saying people don’t/can’t get into shape with the typical “gym approach” – because many (not all) people who push themselves hard and long enough will get in shape. But that comes with a downside: injuries, schedule conflicts, unrealistic time demands, life situations which prevent the “gym commitment”, and the list goes on….

BUT, when you free yourself from the shackles of a typical fitness center, by going with bodyweight fitness training – you remove SO MANY potential obstacles, making your lifelong commitment a million times easier to stick with.

More to come soon…

Your trainer forever – your trainer for life,

———————————————————————————————–

Lower Body Secrets: 5 Tips for a Sexy & Toned Lower Body

Most women, regardless of age and body-type, are unhappy with certain areas of their lower body. Complaints and problems range from “too fat and heavy” to “too thin and un-shapely”. And even women who are pretty happy with their leg, butt, hip and thigh zones will also admit to wanting just a bit more enhancement in one or two specific lower-body areas.

These five tips will help you no matter where you are starting from and no matter what your primary goals are for your lower body trouble spots.

1 – Whichever types of resistance exercises you choose (you already know I prefer – and strongly recommend body-weight exercises and workouts) – just be sure to move slowly and control your tempo throughout the entire range of motion. Focus on breathing throughout each exercise. This will help you stay focused and ‘tuned-in’.

2 – If your main goal to lose body-fat and excess weight – then you must go beyond just “eating healthy”. You want to have an idea of the number of calories you consume daily. It’s simple math – avoid it at your peril. You don’t want to drive yourself nuts here – you just want to know what ‘zone’ your daily caloric intake is in. From there, you can make proper adjustments if needed.

3 – Incorporate a regular stretching program in your weekly fitness schedule. Doesn’t mater what ’style’ – it can be yoga or pilates based – or even a straightforward, ‘blue-collar’ style like my Optimum Flexibility dvd program. But you want to keep your lower body flexible to avoid joint & muscle injuries, speed up recuperation and recovery between workout sessions – and allow you to be at the top of your game – no matter what your game might be. The point I’m trying to make here is – flexibility is often neglected in most people’s fitness programs. But the truth is – it’s an essential element which shouldn’t be left out.

4 – If your goal is to gain healthy weight and build up some sexy, lower-body curves – then be mindful of not over-doing your cardio/aerobic exercise. If gaining some body weight is your top goal – then 10 to 15 minutes of heart-pumping cardio 3 to 5 times per week is ideal for overall health and fitness purposes. You don’t need 50 minutes of aerobic exercise 7 days per week – as that will work against your main goal of healthy weight gain.

5 – (My Personal Favorite) Make Love/Have Great Sex: I’m not talking about trashy, immature promiscuity here. I’m referring to mature and safe sex (and often . Creative, healthy sex should include good doses of physical exertion and full-body muscle stimulation – especially from the lower body and core muscles. So get your sweet lover and get busy loving. A loved body is a sexy body… Yeah baby.

Bonus Tips: Here are 2 bonus tips for a better looking, and feeling, lower-body:

A – If you’ve never had a deep-tissue massage before – I would suggest you try it – or something like it. If you are active in fitness and/or sports – there is nothing like being worked on by a professional massage therapist while you get to completely relax. This is great for keeping your muscles and connective tissue healthy and flexible – in addition to a host of other benefits.

B – Most women already know this – but I’ll say it anyway… A good, natural moisturizer always makes the skin look better. Dry, scaly legs and thighs just don’t have that ‘appeal’ – if you know what I mean. If you have a natural moisturizer you like using – please mention it below in the comment section.

I hope you enjoyed these 5 lower body tips (plus 2 bonus tips). If you have any comments or thoughts – please feel free to post them below.

Fat Loss Secrets: Siobhan’s Story of Miraculous Fat Loss

– submitted by Siobhan Callaghan

I was in absolute terrible condition for my age! After having my fourth child I was so busy about home life, taking care of the kids and everyone else – I just put myself last and let myself go.

My heaviest weight was 200lbs. I suffered from panic attacks low self esteem, constant headaches, fatigue and I had awful back ache, with falling arches in my feet as well.

Sadly, the only thing good was my cholesterol levels were fine!

I hate to admit it but emotionally I was crushed. I was always the high-spirited ‘’joker’’ of the group, the one who seemed to make others happy. I always knew people cared for me but they also (I feel), didn’t look up to me or I suppose maybe even didn’t respect me.

Siobhan at 200lbs, Before Weight Loss

I hated shopping because I could never find anything that would fit me properly and I always hated any special occasions that I would have to dress up for because I could only wear clothes that were made for women in their 50’s!

There were always tears to be shed…

But at the end of last April I went out on a friends birthday party with a bunch of girls and got the kick in the butt that I needed!

Siobhan at 125lbs, After Fat Loss

There I was among other women my age, who had children too, and well… embarrassingly I WAS the biggest girl there and the most dootsy dressed. The only thing I could think of that night was why and how have I done this to myself??

Siobhan at 200lbs, Before Weight Loss

I thought that I too deserve to look and feel good, feel confident and sexy and most important to be and look as young as I was…. I was just going to have take the time for myself which I never did before, realizing that it wasn’t or wouldn’t be selfish for me to it. I would only be selfish by continuing to let myself get so far out of shape and unhealthy.

There was only me that made the mistake and only me that could fix it now.

The first thing I did was a simple, yet focused, week of healthy, controlled eating. I have to say it did help get rid of all the sugar and salt cravings. When the week was over I was stronger inside and more determined and I knew that this was something I really wanted to do, to take control.

I didn’t join any weight watcher clubs, I just stuck to fruit and veggies and chicken and started to buy wholegrain bread and pasta/rice and I bought myself a skipping rope! I was fairly new to the internet (and still am!) and just started to Google anything and everything to do with losing weight or exercises.

As my hips were the biggest part of me I Googled hip & bum exercises and that’s when I first came across my life support!–JOEY ATLAS!

Siobhan at 125lbs, After Fat Loss

There it was… a free download sample of exercises – and I signed up for his free e-newsletter which educated me and I just knew this man was talking sense and in plain old fashioned English with no big health or fitness words that I didn’t understand.

The best thing was, after doing my jump rope I always did the free exercises from Joey and you know, I could see results which made me want more. I was hooked – and Joey earned my trust.

I was so delighted to order his program – I knew it was just meant for me! I was like a kid waiting on Santa after that!

When I did my first session well what can I say I couldn’t do it.. that’s how unfit I was…

My whole body was shaking and nerves twitching everywhere that I could only do maybe 4 or 5 repetitions on each exercise! And as for the next day well it hurt (in a good way) and the day after that, too! I knew this would be the thing that worked for me. Even though it was a challenging start.

Siobhan at 200lbs, Before Weight Loss

But as Joey told me on the DVD to “do what you can and that it will get easier”, well those words of encouragement really persuaded me to stick with it and of course he was right..it did get easier and I did do more and I got results!

Joeys plan is very easy to stick to and all the exercises can be done almost anywhere and as a busy mum of 4 kids, I didn’t have to leave the house to see to myself and get my workouts in!

More importantly I had no expensive equipment to buy which was an added bonus. The DVDs are very easy to follow, Joey makes you feel that he’s right there with you step by step and with a ‘no music’ background, I found it much easier to stay focused, get into the exercises and I suppose, get them right.

Siobhan at 125lbs, After Fat Loss

My current weight is now 125lbs and I’m wearing a dress size (UK) 8/10. I had a wedding about a month ago and bought a USA dress size 4! WooHoo!!

I hadn’t wore a dress since my wedding dress nearly ten years ago and I went from white to black! that’s the dress in my after pics which I did pose for because now I can!! LOL!

Beforehand I always hid behind people in pics which now I wish I didn’t because I would have had great before pics! But nonetheless – you can still see how bad I was.

Its great; now I can almost buy anything I want to wear as long as its not too pricey and not too bare cos even though I’m “half the woman I used to be”, I am so used at covering up myself but I’ll get over that hurdle too!

I want to do more now, get in better shape & go out shopping more! I feel renewed!!

My physical and emotional energy levels are much better now and I’m always up for new challenges and fun things!

I feel that my personal success has made me stronger as a wife, mom and friend – and I have far more confidence in what I can do, not just emotionally but physically.

I have learned that it is important to start to love and and take care of myself and not just others, I need to be confident to make my kids confident, I need to be aware to make my kids aware, I need to be active to make my kids active, I need to be motivated to make my kids motivated and I need to care about myself to make my kids care about themselves, I am trying to educate them that it is important to be fit and healthy and that it can be very fun doing it!

The feed back from others is mostly good. A lot of people don’t recognize me anymore which can be funny! Then you get some saying ah you’ve done enough now you look brilliant so Stop!

It can be hard for some to understand that I actually enjoy eating healthy and exercising, that its not “just to keep the the weight off” for superficial reaons, I just need it for my emotional stability!! I want it for my longevity and… ‘cos I enjoy it!!! that’s all!!

I was asked “was I taking anything” which actually insulted me and I thought well if that’s what a close friend thinks then what does everyone else think! So it knocked me back but again I pushed forward! I’ve learned that people can be jealous of others success and I had it mentioned to me a few times.

I also have learned that people can be inspired by others success and so encourages them to follow suit!

I feel in control of my life and health now, I know where the grass is greener! I wont let myself go like I did for so long, I don’t think I’ve ever been happier!

Now I always try to start my day off and get up an hour earlier than the kids to do my ulbhtm DVD, and like Joey advises, if you want your morning coffee then have it!

Joey has the best ’secret seven’ snack foods ever, and people who come in to my house and see the (natural) peanut butter jar look at me funny and say you ate that and lost weight??!! (Good job the don’t see my dark chocolate!!)

I make good, healthy food choices, and if I get even ten mins free I do a little cardio like skipping rope to up the metabolism and to boost my energy levels. I usually go for a 4 mile brisk walk weather permitting! And if I don’t get the time during the day to do my ulbhtm DVDs, I leave it till I get the kids to bed and do it then..

I feel that I’m now more the person on the outside that I have been on the inside for so long.. So I feel I’m freed from the suit or ’shield of armour’ and instead put the armour into my mind so that I’m stronger person now.

For all the women, and men, who feel they’ve let themselves down or are prisoner in their bodies, well… you’re not.. that’s all in your mind.

Take control of yourself, love yourself and your body.. ‘Cos if you don’t, who will??

Start by saying to yourself “I am in control of who I am and I am going to be happy.. I deserve to be happy..”

And when you control the thoughts in your mind you will control what you do with your body… what you feed it, how you use it, and you will come to realize that the effort is worth it and more importantly it is fun!

And if you have a bad day today, then don’t tell yourself ‘you’ve failed’ or that you can’t do it. Don’t give up hope, because every minute that lies ahead waiting for us is always a new one that we can start from, again.

The only way to encourage change is to think like a baby; you have got to be able to balance on your feet before you take your first steps and then you must learn to walk before you run and everyone stumbles and falls, but rise again and soon you will be fast on your feet…

You must admit – that is an awesomely inspiring story of positive change and leading by example. We would love to hear your thoughts about this. Your success, your challenges – just post below – because I would love to know…

Resveratrol Supplement Hoax: The Evil Truth About Resveratrol

Every six months or so there’s a “new kid on the block” when it comes to the next “magic diet or health pill” – and just like the recent FTC/FDA bust on the much hyped Acai berry scam, every ‘new breakthrough pill’ scam fades off into the sunset – only to be quickly replaced by the next disappointing, money wasting “magic pill”… to satisfy the general public’s desire for the “easy way out” of living fit and eating right.

One of the current ‘new kids’ in the spotlight is Resveratrol – and I highlight today’s feature with a question asked, and answered, inside the private member area at my other site BestFitnessAdvice.com…

Here it is:

HI Joey,

I’m new to the forum, but a long-time dedicated and successful “student” of your fitness program!!! Thanks so much for all of your amazing info!!

I have a question for you….what is your opinion of the much-talked about “Resveritrol” that is being marketed as “THE” youth supplement, claiming to increase energy, erase wrinkles, improve muscle tone etc etc?? It’s pricey, but seems to be well-researched and has been covered by some well-respected people such as Oprah and Dr Oz, and CNN, Today show etc etc!! I trust your judgement and your HONEST opinion, so figured I’d get the scoop from you before I spend my hard-earned money!!!

Thanks much!
Soleil

Here’s my response:

Its the current ’scam/fad’ of the month.

Show me the actual video footage of this (not clever photos on websites created to sell this stuff) “has been covered by some well-respected people such as Oprah and Dr Oz, and CNN, Today show etc etc!!”

Don’t get ’sucked in’ by the clever sales story – Just like acai got taken down recently – this will be next.

There are no magic pills – or ‘newly discovered “shortcuts” – save your money – and do what you know works…

BTW – Thanks for your fantastic complements!!
Joey )

And Soleil’s reply:

Thanks Joey! LOL, exactly the response I expected…

I DO know better! Your program has been phenomenal in keeping this 41 year old fit and toned for more than a year now. I’m 5′7″ and 118 pounds! BUT…I have one little “spot” that I can never get perfect enough for my taste! I have a little “band” of “extra” at the top of my legs where they meet my butt!

It’s not unsightly or dimpled/cellulite, but is definitely a thicker “fatty area” that I can’t get rid of! I have faithfully used your program every other day for 1.5 years…no fail…no kidding!

It has produced amazing results for me, and truthfully I look better than many women half my age…but, alas, like many people, I’m greedy in wanting to have that “perfect’ body, LOL! If you have any more ideas or suggestions to help me with that one last spot, I’d be grateful…

Soleil

Good stuff huh?

Want more of the inside scoop on the soon to be next ‘has been’ fad diet & health supplement?

Here’s a great example of a misleading, deceptive and phony article that I found on a promo site for Smart-Lipo (which should actually be called Stupid-Lipo)

-

Smart lipo is a recently discovered method for directly reducing fat deposits in parts of the body. This method uses a special laser to burn away fat tissue – quite similar to the technique used for pearly penile papules. With this treatment, the need for anesthesia is completely removed. With smart lipo, the surgical process takes place in the doctor’s office alone.

As you decide whether or not smart lipo is the right procedure for you, there are a few questions to ask yourself. The price and ability to pay are the first things people think about when considering this fat removal surgery. Another frequently asked question is what the average recovery time will be. Finally, people will also want to know whether or not previous clients were happy with their results.

Smart lipo treatments are like any other medical procedure in that the prices may vary from one office to another. For a quality procedure the least you will pay is about $2,000, but it can range up to almost $6,000. It is best to make sure you understand and agree with all the expenses before starting the procedure.

When compared to similar procedures, smart lipo has a faster average recovery time with the added benefit of less pain. As described at the SmartLipo therapy website, an individual will experience a little pain that can be controlled with over the counter pain medication. The bruising that is associated with this procedure is usually gone in two or three days. Swelling is decreased by wearing a pressure dressing or compression garments. Normally a person can go back to their daily routine one day after completing a smart lipo treatment.

A recent survey indicated that over eighty percent of people who spent money on the smart lipo treatment thought the results were worth it in the end. That still leaves about eighteen percent of people that disagree. So what do they think? They had a collection of views. One person complained that the treatments caused hard bumps in the area of the procedure. One person said the procedure produced unnatural results and that the process was too long overall. In the final analysis, anyone thinking of smart lipo must decide for themselves whether the treatment is right for them.
